I’m a practical and creative communicator, well-versed in building strategic communications efforts, and particularly in branding and social media.

Using roughly ten years' experience, I’ve developed successful communications campaigns by using research and insights to see the bigger picture, solve problems and change behavior.

As the current associate director of digital communications at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and a recent graduate of Georgetown University's public relations & corporate communications master’s program, I’ve developed this skillset through the experiences enumerated below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for all of the organization’s digital matters, including social media and content development, website enhancements, marketing, photography and video.

  • Help draft and execute strategic communication projects on behalf of “internal clients,” including advocacy, marketing events and programs, student affairs.

  • Supervise one direct report, for assistance and growth in building social content, production of bi-weekly electronic newsletter, and other communications functions as necessary.

Highlights:

  • Started at the assistant level in a previously non-existent role, have grown to the associate director level by developing new communications functions for the association.

  • Grew our social following by about 140% across all channels from 2016 to 2022, by developing and executing the association’s first strategic social media plan, aligned with our company brand and goals.

  • In 2022, grew our engagement rate to an average 3.4% across platforms, reaching 4.5% and 2.3% on Facebook and Twitter respectively.

  • Designed and conducted workshops to introduce emerging university leadership and organizational staff to using social media in a professional capacity, based on industry best practices.

  • Co-created and moderated an hour-long session on science communication and personal branding for researchers at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists’ annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Ran a repeat session, with different speakers and further discussion, at AACP’s annual meeting in 2019.

Communication Coordinator

National School Public Relations Association

May 2010 – February 2013; Derwood, Md.

Responsibilities:

  • Created ads for association publications, developed surveys and reported data using SurveyMonkey applications, learned database analysis and extraction for prospect marketing.

  • Wrote, edited and proofread electronic newsletters and marketing materials, managed correspondence, managed client relations, assisted staff, provided customer service for members, managed shipping and receiving.

  • Coordinated and implemented national awards competition for three programs dealing with communication tactics, products and programs.

    • Tasks for the competition included marketing, managing database entry, organizing entries for judging, coordinating and implementing more than 500 award entries. Distributed letters, certificates, and plaques to the winners.

  • Served at NSPRA previously during summers 2006-2008. Performed registration and administrative functions at national seminars in July 1997-2005.

The Truman National Security Project              

January 2011 to May 2011

As Communication Intern, analyzed Project and competitor websites for ease of data access, formatting, and social media presence. Searched for and posted articles of Fellowship program onto the site blog. Evaluated social media outreach of competing websites to determine effectiveness.


Rock the Vote

August 2010 to November 2010

As an Intern, coordinated activities with field organizers, registered voters, recruited volunteers, researched and created volunteer events, drafted a letter to all campus team leaders, reviewed ads and website to suggest improvements, and helped brainstorm new marketing messages and methods of getting young voter attention.

June – August 2009

As an Intern, participated in the Internship Program for Postsecondary Students as an undergraduate. Was listed in two reports: Defense Industrial Base Assessment: Counterfeit Electronics and Critical Technology Assessment: Fine Grain, High Density Graphite. Extensively researched products and international export controls, green technology; attended advisory committee meetings and an outside industry conference; calculated and entered data into Excel; edited, proofread, and refined office reports; and answered phones.

As Director of Guest Services, performed various tasks as needed, including visiting hotels around the city, meeting with concierges, helping develop marketing materials, and launching a new phone tour program. Completed general office tasks, such as responding to customer inquiries, working with vendors, and compiling spreadsheets of customer data.


Envision Communications, Inc.

Winter 2008

As an Intern, performed a number of tasks to help the firm gear up for the November 2008 elections. Most tasks involved researching clients and their opponents to find information that can be used to promote candidates. Entered data in Excel, sifted through thousands of internet stories in Google and Lexus Nexus searches, compiled results in summaries, and answered phones.

Worked every week with low income, bilingual, kindergarten-level children in basic math and reading, supervised arts and crafts activities, and translated everyday phrases from Spanish to English.
